
July 8- On June 26, Congressman Rothman joined a group of his colleagues on Capitol Hill to announce legislation to reduce oil speculation in the energy markets. Experts agree that speculation is inflating the price of oil, possibly as much as $70 a barrel. Teen Safety Measure Passes House
June 25- Today, a teen safety measure introduced by Rep. Rothman overwhelming passed the House of Representatives as part of groundbreaking legislation to stop child abuse and neglect at private treatment facilities, such as teen boot camps and correctional boarding schools. Read more.

about the EPA Settlement with Companies to Remove Pollutants from a Portion of
the Passaic

23- Today,
Congressman Rothman expressed cautious optimism about the announcement of the
first phase of a legal settlement between the Environmental Protection Agency
and two companies responsible for polluting the Passaic River. This agreement
calls for Occidental Chemical and Tierra Solutions to spend an estimated $80 million
to clean up 200,000 cubic yards of toxic waste from a three-and-a-half mile stretch
at the mouth of the Passaic River, with the payment and clean-up of remaining
areas still under negotiation. Read more.
