As part of his March 2008 Listening Tour, Congressman Steve Rothman held 13 Listening Sessions throughout Northern New Jersey. He met with hundreds of constituents of the 9th Congressional District to discuss the issues that matter to them, in-person. The ongoing war in Iraq, rising health costs, and economic concerns were recurrent topics of concern throughout the two-week tour. Many individuals also stayed late after Sessions ended to speak one-on-one with the Congressman and his staff about personal casework matters.

"While I always encourage individuals to come to these Listening Sessions, I also want residents to know that they don't have to wait for another town hall meeting to ask for help or express their views on an issue. My office is available throughout the year. I can be reached by phone, fax, email, and through personal visits to my offices in Hackensack, Jersey City, and Washington, D.C.," said Rothman.

Commenting on the importance of his Listening Sessions, the Congressman explained: "I continue to fight for positive changes in our national policies and in our communities. However, I believe that the best solutions often begin with listening to and learning from the people I represent.

"That is why I am pleased to visit all of the towns I represent to discuss any and all topics. I learn so much from these Sessions and I want the residents I meet with to walk away with a better understanding of the issues facing our community, as well."

Congressman Rothman represents the southern portion of Bergen County, parts of northern Hudson County, and the Borough of Hawthorne in Passaic County. Now serving in his sixth term, Rothman is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which makes decisions about all federal spending. He sits on the Defense, Foreign Operations, and Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittees of the Appropriations Committee. He is also a member of the House Science and Technology Committee's Subcommittees on Space and Aeronautics and Investigations and Oversight.
