(Lodi, NJ)— On Friday, February 29, 2008, Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9) put on a red-and-white-striped Dr. Seuss hat and read the author's timeless book, The Lorax, to a group of about fifty fourth-grade students at Washington Elementary School in Lodi. Rothman visited the school as part of the National Education Association's (NEA) annual "Read Across America" program, coordinated locally by the New Jersey Education Association and the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.

"It is always a pleasure to spend time reading to students at Washington Elementary School and other schools throughout my Congressional District," said Rothman."We all know that if our children enjoy reading, they will inevitably succeed in school. It is our collective responsibility as parents, teachers, neighbors and elected representatives to ensure that our children thrive in our public schools, and the Read Across America program is an excellent resource to help us reach that goal."

The 11th annual "Read Across America" campaign kicked-off nationally on March 3rd, celebrating what would have been Dr. Seuss's 104th birthday. More than 45 million children and adults are expected to take part in this year's reading motivation and awareness program nationwide.
