Joint Action Committee Thanks Congressman Rothman for His Support of a Resolution Condemning the Ongoing Palestinian Rocket Attacks on Israeli Civilians

(Washington, DC)—On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, the Joint Action Committee thanked Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) for co-sponsoring H.Res. 951, a resolution condemning the ongoing Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians. The next day, Rothman voted for the Resolution on the floor of the House of Representatives, where it passed by an overwhelming margin of 404 to 1.

In describing his support for the Resolution to the New Jersey Jewish Standard in February, Rothman said: "It is always appropriate to condemn terrorism, especially against America's closest and most strategic ally in the Middle East, the Jewish State of Israel. But it is especially timely and necessary when the U.N. Security Council has recently debated whether to condemn Israel for defending itself against the rocket attacks coming from Gaza."

The Joint Action Committee is an advocacy group that promotes the United States-Israel relationship, separation of religion and state, reproductive freedom and social policies that are a priority of the American Jewish community, including the maintenance of strong social services. To promote this agenda, Joint Action Committee enlists Jewish community participation in advocacy with elected officials.
