Rothman Meets with Jewish War Veterans of NJ

(Washington, DC)—On Thursday, March 6, 2008, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) met with members of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States, Department of New Jersey. They discussed their mutual opposition to the President's Fiscal Year 2009 budget, which does not provide enough funding for veterans' health care.

Rothman supports, instead, the 2009 Democratic Budget, which rejects the President's proposed new fees on veterans, but uses general revenue to increase veterans funding by $3.6 billion. This additional sum is needed to keep pace with inflation and will allow the Veterans' Administration to treat 5.8 million patients in 2009, including 333,275 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans.

Rothman, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, is a long-time advocate for increased funding for veterans' services.
