Notice about Passport Processing
Dear Residents of the 9th Congressional District,
It has come to my attention that the passport process is taking longer than average due to an unprecedented number of passport applications filed in January and February of this year. The significantly higher volume is due to changes in U.S. travel requirements to Canada and Mexico, as well as certain Caribbean islands.
Travelers should be advised that the process, which used to take approximately four weeks to complete, now takes twelve to fourteen weeks. Even when expedited fees are paid, the process will still take three to four weeks, according to the U.S. Department of State.
With the travel season upon us, I encourage you to submit your passport renewal application as soon as possible. If you are traveling or need your passport in order to get a visa within the next two weeks, you should call the State Department at 1-877-487-2778 or go to http://www.travel.state.gov/ to check the status of your application.
If you still find that you need help with the passport process, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (201) 646-0808. You can also fill out a casework form online. You will be contacted by one of my caseworkers about your situation. We are here to help you!
Sincerely,
Rep. Steve Rothman
