Honoring Korean War Veterans in Hudson County
November 21, 2006 U.S. Reps. Rothman and Albio Sires (D-NJ) joined Hudson County Executive Thomas DeGise and the Board of Chosen Freeholders to honor 103 veterans with the Korean War Hudson County Distinguished Military Service Medal. The occasion began with a presentation of colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance (pictured). Read more.Eliminate Tax Cuts for Millionaires to Fund Veterans' Healthcare
May 12, 2006 Congressman Rothman voted this week to eliminate a small portion of the tax cut for individuals making over $1 million and use those funds to improve veterans healthcare programs. The vote took place during a House Appropriations Committee meeting on the spending bill for veterans services. Unfortunately, the Republican Majority on this Committee instead passed a bill for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that fails to provide veterans the healthcare they deserve. November 13, 2006 In honor of Veterans' Day, Rep. Rothman said: "Whether in times of war or peace, our nation must always pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces. January 30, 2006 New data show that the Presidents decision to ban priority 8 veterans from enrolling in the Veterans Administration (VA) health care system prevented 4,808 New Jersey veterans from receiving VA services. Calling this policy a shameful disgrace, Rep. Steve Rothman introduced legislation called the Honor Our Commitment to Veterans Act to reverse the Administrations policy on Priority 8 veterans enrollment. January 24, 2006 Rep. Rothman wrote President George W. Bush on behalf of veterans who are concerned about possible increases in their TRICARE health care premiums. TRICARE is the Department of Defenses managed health care program for Active Duty military, Active Duty service families, retirees and their families, and other beneficiaries. Reports from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW) and others suggest that an increase in premiums will be effective October 1, 2006 and fees will double for enlisted retirees and triple for officer retirees by 2009.
