April 7, 2008 As part of his March 2008 Listening Tour, Congressman Rothman held 13 Listening Sessions throughout Northern New Jersey. He met with hundreds of constituents of the 9th Congressional District to discuss the issues that matter to them, in-person. The ongoing war in Iraq, rising health costs, and economic concerns were recurrent topics of concern throughout the two-week tour. Many individuals also stayed late after Sessions ended to speak one-on-one with the Congressman and his staff about personal casework matters.

Rothman Introduces "Phylicia's Law"
December 3, 2007 Rep. Rothman has introduced Phylicias Law, a bill to require public schools to have safety plans and security procedures in place for school-run, overnight, off-premises field trips. The legislation is named in honor of Phylicia Moore, an 18-year-old student from Teaneck who died this past April while on a school-sponsored service trip to Ghana. Phylicias parents, Douglas and Lola Moore, joined Rothman outside of his Hackensack office on Monday, Dec. 3 to announce Phylicias Law. Rothman Says Congress Must Stop Illegal Gun Trafficking Into New Jersey
April 16, 2008 On Tuesday, Congressman Rothman and his colleagues on the Congressional Task Force on Illegal Guns discussed how to stop illegal gun trafficking at a hearing on Capitol Hill. During the public forum, which featured four witnesses who had been directly involved in illegal gun purchases and sales, Rothman spoke about the importance of helping law enforcement stop the illegal flow of guns to violent criminals. March 31, 2008 Jersey City and Newark Housing Authority officials met with Congressman Rothman to discuss the federal "Moving to Work" program, which gives public housing officials greater flexibility to design ways to help public housing residents become more self-sufficient. "We must constantly explore options to help fellow New Jerseyans find educational opportunities, employment opportunities and other means toward gaining independence and stability. March 7, 2008 Jersey City Mayor Healy was joined today by officials and local community leaders to express their outrage that the U.S. Postal Service has decided to permanently close the General Lafayette Station on Montgomery Street. Said Rothman: "Why should the people of Greenville and Lafayette have the indignity of constantly seeing things taken from them with the simple explanation well, you can go to another community? They shouldn't. That's why I am proud to stand with Mayor Healy in this fight to save vital services for all of Jersey City's communities. Feb. 29, 2008 On Wednesday, Rep. Rothman met with the Army Corps of Engineers about their Fiscal Year 2009 Civil Works budget. During the meeting, Rothman strongly reiterated that a flood control project on the Lower Saddle River should be a national budget priority for the Corps. "Unless action is taken to provide a long-term solution to major flooding along the Lower Saddle River, the cost of short-term fixes will continue to mount," said Rothman. Read more.

February 14, 2008 Yesterday, the House passed Rep. Rothman's Resolution (H.Res.960) congratulating the Giants on their victory over the previously undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The Giants - whose home field of Giants Stadium is located in East Rutherford in Rothman's 9th Congressional District - went into Super Bowl XLII as the 12-point underdog. Memory Walk 2007 A Success
October 31, 2007 On Sunday, Rep. Rothman joined the Alzheimers Association of Greater New Jersey for its 2007 Memory Walk at Van Saun Park in Paramus. Hundreds of residents braved the cold to participate in the annual event, which funds programs and services for more than 350,000 New Jerseyans and their families who are affected by Alzheimers and related diseases. October 22, 2007 Standing outside Rutherford's historic train station, Rep. Rothman today presented Mayor Bernadette McPherson with a symbolic check for $2 million to enable New Jersey Transit to renovate the waiting room and interior of the building. The work to restore the exterior of the station to its original architectural appearance is already in design and will be constructed with state funding, but NJ Transit says it would not have been able to move forward on the inside without federal support. Life-Saving Mobile Hospital Made Possible by Federal Funding
October 10, 2007 Rep. Rothman, along with Senators Lautenberg and Menendez, this week joined Hackensack University Medical Center leaders to unveil the first Emergency Mobile Trauma Unit for use in the event of a terrorist attack or other mass casualty incident in an urban area. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) asserts 'conflict preemption' in its new regulations. January 31, 2007 Today, Rep. Rothman and the Democratic Majority in the House did their part to prevent the federal government from shutting down for the first time since 1996. They passed what is known as a Continuing Resolution, a bill that encompasses all 9 of the 11 spending bills that Republicans failed to pass last year. This spending bill will not only ensure the government stays open to help people, but also includes, within the budget cap, a number of new investments that will directly help the people of North Jersey, explained Rothman. January 22, 2007 As soon as the 110th Congress was sworn-in on January 4th, Rep. Rothman and his Democratic colleagues immediately moved forward with their First 100 Hours agenda. Specifically, during the first 100 hours that Congress spent voting on legislation, Rothman worked to pass a series of bills that were announced last November, beginning with ethics reform and ending with the repeal of $14 billion in subsidies and tax breaks for oil companies. Congressman Rothman holds town hall meetings throughout the year to make it easy for people to meet with him personally and give them an additional opportunity to ensure their opinions are heard. You can also communicate with him through letters and phone calls, by email, and in meetings at his offices. Congressman Rothman's next Listening Tour will take place during August 2008. Dates and times will be announced closer to August.
