(April 28, 2007) Downtown, Los Angeles - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard announced the winners of the 14th Annual 34th Congressional District Student Art Competition at an awards presentation and exhibit opening at the Pico House in historic Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles. This year 156 students representing 15 different high schools participated in the art competition. All entries were professionally framed and are currently featured in a month-long exhibit at the Pico House gallery. The winner and finalists of this year’s art competition are as follows: Pictured in the center photo from left to right at the exhibit opening reception: Robert Nelson, Art Instructor, Mayfair High School; Anthony Castañeda of Bellflower, Mayfair High School, First Place Winner; Anthony’s winning entry, Ancestral Wind; Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard; and Dan Madison, Art Instructor, Mayfair High School. Each competition entry was judged on four criteria: originality, technical skill, artistic presentation and use of color and contrast. All 156 entries submitted for the 14th Annual Student Art Competition are currently on display at the Pico House Gallery at the historical Olvera Street site until June 3rd. El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, also known as Olvera Street, is located near downtown Los Angeles between Main and Los Angeles streets and the 101 Freeway and Cesar Chavez Avenue. Entrance is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
