An Artistic Discovery: The Congressional Art Competition
Welcome to Wisconsin’s 1st District Artistic
Discovery web page. I hope this information assists both high
school students and art teachers in obtaining immediate information on contest
guidelines and regulations, background information on the artistic discovery
program, and the required student information entry form.
This
year celebrates the 28th Annual Congressional Art Competition—An Artistic
Discovery. The nationwide art competition, which is voluntarily
sponsored by Members of Congress, allows creative high school
students to showcase their talents in Washington, D.C. at the US Capitol
Building. The first place winner in each competition have their
winning entry displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year, and are eligible
for scholarship opportunities from the Savannah College of Arts and Design.
In addition, the top four winners of the 1st District Art Competition receive scholarship prizes from a private sponsor. The winning
artist is invited to fly to Washington, D.C. for a national reception
honoring the winning artists from all over the country. The cost of attending the ceremony is the responsibility of
the competition winner.
I believe that this competition is an
excellent opportunity for young artists to not only be challenged locally, but
to also be recognized for their talent, creativity and vision at the national
level.
