The Lustig family had previously only received Sergeant Lustig's Purple Heart medal; the long-overdue awards were presented to Phyllis Kail, Sergeant Lustig's sister, by Congressman Paul Ryan.

Sergeant Maurice Lustig - a member of the "Janesville 99" who endured the Bataan Death March, was a Japanese POW for 900 days, and who was lost at sea on October 24, 1944.
