WASHINGTON - First District Congressman Paul Ryan today introduced the Social Security Guarantee Initiative, a House Resolution expressing Congress' commitment to protecting the current level of Social Security benefits for all present and soon-to-be retirees. Legislation Expresses Congress' Commitment to Protecting Benefits for All Current Recipients
The resolution was drafted to assure the millions of Social Security recipients throughout the country that regardless of any reforms to the program, it is the intent of Congress that their present level of benefits would not change in any way.
"As Congress is set to address needed reforms to protect Social Security, we must assure that those who are currently receiving benefits and those who will soon retire will not be adversely affected by any changes," said Ryan. "Our goal is to strengthen the program while maintaining our commitment to those who already rely on Social Security."
"This legislation was drafted as a blueprint to accomplish this goal and to show that our commitment to today's retirees is unwavering."
In addition, Ryan today announced that he has been named to the House Budget Committee's Task Force on Social Security. The Task Force will be charged with developing reforms to protect the program prior to the upcoming budget negotiations.
"I am very pleased to be named to this task force," said Ryan. "Protecting Social Security will continue to be my greatest priority until the necessary reforms are carried out by Congress and the President. This task force will allow me the opportunity to put forth a proposal to ensure that all Social Security payroll taxes be dedicated to the Social Security Trust Fund."
