RYAN SOCIAL SECURITY LEGISLATION PASSES THE HOUSE

Resolution Expresses Congress' Commitment to Preserve Benefits for Current and Soon-to-be-Retirees
"We must prove that we can improve this valuable program without infringing upon the protections Social Security now offers our nation's retirees."

WASHINGTON - First District Congressman Paul Ryan today hailed the passage of legislation he authored, H.J. Resolution 32, the Social Security Guarantee Initiative. The resolution expresses Congress' commitment to protecting the current level of Social Security benefits for all present and soon-to-be retirees.

The legislation also states that any reforms made to the program must be enacted without raising taxes. The resolution was drafted as means to ensure the millions of Social Security recipients throughout the nation who rely on this important program that they will not lose any of their present benefits or face higher payroll taxes.

Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee passed the bipartisan resolution by a vote of 32 to 0. Ryan assisted in managing today's floor debate over the legislation.

Attached is Ryan's statement on the Social Security Guarantee Initiative that was given today on the floor of the House of Representatives.
