RYAN URGES ADMINISTRATION FOR FAIRNESS IN MEDICARE PAYMENTS

"This is an issue of fairness. While other regions of the country enjoy more attractive reimbursement rates, Wisconsin's health providers continue to get shortchanged by the current formula."

WASHINGTON -- First District Congressman Paul Ryan is calling upon the Clinton Administration to consider the adverse affects that further reductions in Medicare funding would have on Wisconsin beneficiaries and health providers. In a letter to the President today, Ryan noted that hospitals and health care facilities in Wisconsin already operate at reimbursement levels far below the national average.

"As the President and his administration will soon release the details of their budget, I urge them to consider the health care needs of Wisconsin," said Ryan. "Further reductions in Medicare funding for our hospitals and providers will have serious repercussions on the continued access to quality health care for the citizens of our state."

"This is an issue of fairness. While other regions of the country enjoy more attractive reimbursement rates, Wisconsin's health providers continue to get shortchanged by the current formula. Further, recent speculation indicates that more cuts are on the way. I would urge the Administration to reverse course and address the funding inequities facing the people of Wisconsin."
