First District Congressman Paul Ryan today offered new details about a special dedication ceremony that he will be hosting with the United States Postal Service to change the official name of the Janesville Post Office to the "Les Aspin Post Office Building." The dedication ceremony will open with an honor guard presentation by the 521st Maintenance Battalion of Milwaukee. The Master of Ceremonies for the event will be former State Senator and Aspin ombudsman Tim Cullen. In addition to Congressman Ryan, who will offer a tribute to Les Aspin, other confirmed speakers at this point include Janesville City Council President Paul Murphy, Rock County Board Chairman Terry Maybee, and Sue Janczak-Scanlan, Manager of Post Office Operations. The unveiling of the dedication plaque for the post office will take place at about 2:30 P.M. Just after the unveiling, the Wisconsin Air National Guard – 115th Fighter Wing will conduct a special fly-over consisting of four F-16 Fighting Falcons. A reception will follow the fly-over.

Aspin served as a representative from Wisconsin's First Congressional District for twenty-two years, until his resignation in January of 1993 to become Secretary of Defense in the Cabinet of President Clinton. Former Secretary Aspin passed away on May 21, 1995. Earlier this year, Congressman Ryan introduced legislation to rename the U.S. Post Office in Janesville the Les Aspin Post Office Building as a tribute to the late Secretary Aspin. This legislation was signed into law, and the dedication ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2000 at 2:00 P.M.
