First District Congressman Paul Ryan today announced the scheduling
of a special dedication ceremony that he will be hosting with the United
States Postal Service to change the official name of the Janesville Post
Office to the "Les Aspin Post Office Building." The late Congressman and
U.S. Secretary of Defense Les Aspin served as a representative
from Wisconsin's First Congressional District for twenty-two years, until
his resignation in January of 1993 to become Secretary of Defense in the
Cabinet of President Clinton. Former Secretary Aspin passed away on May
21, 1995. Earlier this year, Congressman Ryan introduced legislation to
rename the U.S. Post Office in Janesville the Les Aspin Post Office Building
as a tribute to the late Secretary Aspin. This legislation was signed into
law, and the dedication ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, September
29, 2000 at 2:00 pm.
