JANESVILLE – First District Congressman Paul Ryan today announced that the winner of this year's First Congressional District Art Competition is Elkhorn High School senior Michael Miller. Miller's winning entry, a drawing in pencil titled "Pennsylvania Station," will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol, along with the winning entries from other congressional districts throughout the country.
Ryan
hosted the annual First Congressional District Art Competition this past
Saturday, May 5 in Janesville. The competition was part of the 20th annual
Congressional High School Art Competition — An Artistic Discovery.
The nationwide art competition, which is voluntarily sponsored by Members
of Congress, provides young student artists with an opportunity to showcase
their work locally, as well as the chance to be recognized at the national
level for their talent and creativity.
"I would like to thank all the students and schools who took part in this year's competition," Ryan said. "I appreciate having had the chance to view so many wonderful works of art. I know it must have been difficult to be a judge this year, considering the skill and imagination of the student artists who participated."
"In the end, Michael Miller's excellent drawing earned top honors from the judges. His black-and-white image of Pennsylvania Station was both beautifully and creatively executed. I would like to thank Michael for sharing his tremendous talent with us and with all those who will admire his work as it is displayed at the U.S. Capitol this year."
This marks the second consecutive year that the winner of the First Congressional District Art Competition is a student from Elkhorn High School.
