IRS TAX HELP AVAILABLE BY PHONE, INTERNET, AND AT WISCONSIN LOCATIONS
In an effort to assist those First District residents who have not yet filed their taxes this year, First District Congressman Paul Ryan today provided the following information about where Wisconsinites can turn for tax help from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS):

Wisconsin taxpayers in need of tax help from the IRS have several options. In addition to offering around-the-clock telephone assistance on its toll-free hotline (1-800-TAX-1040), the IRS offers tax help, forms, and publications on its website (www.irs.gov). Tax forms and publications are also available by mail by calling the IRS at 1-800-TAX-FORM (829-3676).

IRS tax help is also available at these locations in or near Wisconsin's First District:

Free tax help is also available through two IRS-sponsored programs – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE). These programs provide tax help and basic tax form preparation to people who need tax help but cannot afford to pay for it. This may include low-income, elderly, disabled, and non-English speaking taxpayers. To learn the location of VITA or TCE tax help sites in the area, contact the IRS at 1-800-TAX-1040.

In addition, taxpayers who have been unsuccessful in resolving issues with the IRS through normal channels have the right to contact the Taxpayer Advocate by calling, toll free, 1-877-777-4778. The Taxpayer Advocate can offer special help if an IRS action is causing the taxpayer significant hardship.
