RYAN APPOINTED TO JOINT ECONOMIC COMMITTEE

WASHINGTON – The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday appointed Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan to the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), which is tasked primarily with reviewing economic conditions and recommending improvements in economic policy.

The JEC is made up of ten Members of the House of Representatives and ten U.S. Senators. It is one of only four Joint Committees of Congress. Joint committees are unique in that they are composed of Members from both chambers.

This marks Ryan's second opportunity to serve on the JEC, a committee of which he was a member during the last Congress. Additionally, the JEC is the second committee on which Ryan will serve during the present Congress. Earlier this year, Ryan secured a seat on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and the federal government's authority to borrow money (in other words, the public debt), among other things.

"I am honored to have this chance to continue serving on the Joint Economic Committee, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to help shape economic policy over the next two years," Ryan said.
