RYAN PRAISES PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS, RESOLVE

WASHINGTON – First District Congressman Paul Ryan tonight made the following statement in response to President Bush's address to Congress and the nation:

"Tonight the President inspired us all with his strength, his faith in America, and his passion for justice. He did a great job tackling the key questions on Americans' minds: who attacked us and why, and how we will fight terrorism and prevail.  He calmly and clearly laid out the facts about terrorist networks and outlined our nation's necessary response to the horrific attacks of September 11th."

"President Bush made it clear that we need to adopt a sustained, multi-pronged approach that draws on support from our allies around the world, if we want to combat terrorism effectively.
I agree wholeheartedly.  We cannot appease terrorists; we must go on the offensive against them and those who aid and shelter them.  The President's ultimatum to the Taliban drove this point home and leaves no doubt about how the United States will deal with governments that give safe haven to terrorists."

"No question, this means all of us have to steel ourselves for the long haul, and maintain our unity and strong resolve. But we are up to the task, and I share the President's firm belief in the American people."

"The President's solid leadership at this crucial time inspires confidence at home and sends a clear message abroad to both friends and foes of America – justice will be done."
