Ryan Embarks Today for Central Asia, Afghanistan Region
Wisconsin’s First District Congressman, Paul Ryan, departs today en route central Asia as part of a small bipartisan congressional delegation sent by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. The delegation will visit U.S. forces stationed in the region, meet with area leaders, and observe the progress of the war on terrorism. Although specifics about the trip itinerary cannot be released ahead of time due to security precautions, one detail that has been made public is that Ryan and the delegation will have the opportunity to visit the U.S.S. George Washington battle group during their trip.
"I’m honored to have been chosen to go to Afghanistan and that theater of operations," Ryan said. "It’s important that we make the most of this chance to observe what’s taking place in the region, assess our progress in the war on terrorism, and talk with key players about the next steps. I’m also excited to be able to talk with our troops, learn from them, and let them know how proud we are of them."
During the trip, Rep. Ryan will bring Wisconsinites’ messages of thanks and support to U.S. forces stationed overseas, in the form of banners signed by constituents and bearing the words "Wisconsin Is Behind You."
