Ryan Comments on Pledge of Allegiance Ruling
WASHINGTON – First District Congressman Paul Ryan issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit (a federal appeals court in San Francisco) that found the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional due to its description of the United States as "one Nation under God":
"I’m shocked but not surprised," Ryan said. "By ruling against our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has disgraced itself and embarrassed the judicial branch of our government. I expect this court’s decision will be overturned, but this just shows how ridiculous things can get when judges try to rewrite our Constitution. It also demonstrates how vital the Senate’s role of confirming good judges is."
