Ryan Hails Capture of Saddam Hussein

WASHINGTON – First District Congressman Paul Ryan today made the following statement after the President announced the capture of Saddam Hussein:

“Today the Iraqi people can breathe more easily because they know that Saddam Hussein will never be back in power. His capture sends a clear signal to the terrorists who have been fighting against a free Iraq that Hussein’s reign of terror is over.”

“I want to congratulate our troops for this immense achievement. They took on this challenge and all the heavy risks that go with it, and they deserve our lasting gratitude.”

“This is a triumph and a day of deliverance for Iraqis. But we must be careful to remember that there are still many terrorists at large and peace will not come to Iraq immediately. We have a lot more work to do with the Iraqi people and our allies to make sure Iraq is secure and freedom takes root there.”
