CWD
Task Force Holds Briefing
WASHINGTON,
DC – Wisconsin’s First District Congressman Paul Ryan today co-chaired a
task force briefing and roundtable discussion on chronic wasting disease (CWD)
held by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and Foundation.
Reps. Ryan and Ron Kind are co-chairs of the Congressional Sportsmen’s
Caucus Task Force on Chronic Wasting Disease.
Both took part in today’s event, as did Rep. Mark Green.
Ryan
emphasized the importance of protecting Wisconsin’s hunting heritage and
getting the necessary support for state research, testing, and efforts to combat
CWD.
“I
was setting up tree stands the other day for bow season, and gun season is not
far off. Like all Wisconsin’s
hunters, I want to make sure that our great deer hunting heritage continues for
future generations,” Ryan said. “Hunting
is a vital part of Wisconsin’s culture and economy.
We have to preserve this heritage and make sure that our state gets the
federal resources it needs to control CWD and carry out needed research and
testing.”
Among
the participants in today’s CWD briefing were representatives from the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, U.S. Geologic Survey, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service.
