Ryan Statement on Start of War with Hussein’s
Regime in Iraq
WASHINGTON
– Wisconsin’s First District Congressman Paul Ryan today made the following
statement regarding the commencement of military action by U.S. and allied
troops in Iraq:
“Our
prayers are with our troops as they put their lives on the line in and around
Iraq to disarm a deadly foe,” Ryan said.
“The cause they are fighting for is just, and they are well-prepared to
carry out this mission.”
“Saddam
Hussein and his regime have had twelve years and many chances to give up their
weapons of mass destruction, comply with international obligations, and choose
peace. Instead,
he has chosen the path of deception and continued aggression.
The danger of letting Hussein –
with his hatred for America, his terrorist ties, and his proven
willingness to use chemical weapons – amass even more power and continue
building even more dangerous weapons is simply too great.”
“Our troops are fighting, as a last resort, to remove this grave threat. At the same time, they are liberating the Iraqi people, who have suffered so much under Hussein’s rule of terror.”
