Ryan: Attacks in Iraq,
Spain Demand Our Unwavering Resolve in War on Terror
WASHINGTON
– U.S.
Rep. Paul Ryan today made the following statement:
“Today’s
awful attack on a Baghdad hotel and the continuing attacks on our troops and on
peaceful Iraqi citizens show just how threatened terrorists are by a free and
democratic Iraq.
This is why it is crucial for us to keep working with the Iraqis and our
coalition allies to make sure freedom and the rule of law have the chance to
take root in Iraq.
Our military and the coalition forces working with them have done an
amazing job freeing the people of Iraq and helping them recover from Saddam
Hussein’s brutal rule.
They deserve our gratitude and continued prayers for their safety.”
“Like
those who have struck at innocent Iraqis and coalition forces, the people who
used train bombs to commit mass murder in Spain are allies of terror and enemies
of freedom. They
cannot be allowed to succeed.
Retreating in the face of terrorism only emboldens terrorists and leads
to more violence.
Working with our allies from many other countries, our nation has made
real progress combating terrorists.
We must continue taking the offensive against those who use murder and
invoke fear to get what they want.”
Friday
marks one year since U.S. and coalition troops began military action in Iraq.
The U.S. House of Representatives today passed a resolution that:
-
Affirms
that the United States and the world have been made safer with the removal
of Saddam Hussein and his regime from power in Iraq;
-
Commends
the Iraqi people for their courage in the face of unspeakable oppression and
brutality inflicted on them by Saddam Hussein’s regime;
-
Commends
the Iraqi people on the adoption of Iraq’s interim constitution; and
-
Commends
the members of the United States Armed Forces and Coalition forces for
liberating Iraq and expresses its gratitude for their valiant service.
