Schwartz: Release America's Oil
7/24/2008
Washington D.C. – U.S. Representative Allyson Schwartz voted today in strong support of a plan to provide immediate relief to consumers from the high price of gas. The bill, the Consumer Energy Supply Act of 2008, would temporarily release 10 percent of the oil from the government’s own stockpile, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), and replace it later with heavier, cheaper crude oil. The SPR plays a vital homeland defense role for America, but with the reserve currently 97 percent full temporarily releasing a small portion of the oil available will not harm the national security of our country.
