U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) today joined U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, Dallas ISD Trustee Dr. Edwin Flores, Phoenix House Executive Vice President Monty Mueller for the Grand Opening announcement of the Phoenix House after-school program Intervention Moves Parents and Children Together (IMPACT) for at-risk youth.
“Phoenix House serves as a pillar of hope in the North Texas community as a leading-edge substance abuse treatment and prevention organization, and I am proud to be a strong supporter of their efforts,” said Sessions. “By taking their highly successful treatment programs and developing a vibrant after-school prevention program, Phoenix House IMPACT will provide our community with a safe and structured after-school alternative for high-risk teens.”
U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) today announced congressional approval of the Boy Scouts of America Centennial Commemorative Coin Act (H.R. 5872) authorizing the “100 Years of Scouting” commemorative coin in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America in 2010. The U.S. Senate passed the measure by unanimous consent on Saturday, September 27, following House approval on May 15, 2008. The bill will now be sent to President Bush to be signed into law.
U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) today released the following statement after the House approved a continuing resolution that will allow the ban on offshore energy and oil shale production to expire at the end of this month:
“After months of Democratic opposition to increasing energy production offshore and on federal lands, the will of the American people has won. Today, the Democratic Majority caved to relentless Republican protests to increase American-made energy by ending their last-minute attempts to prevent full repeal of the current offshore energy moratorium. Now the congressional ban on offshore energy and oil shale development will expire on October 1, 2008 – a day of American energy victory in the long road to energy independence.
All across our nation, neighbors, schools, religious congregations, and community groups have found meaningful ways to say “thank you” to our troops and their families during this season. I would like to share two resources that the Department of Defense has facilitated to help Americans support our troops and their families.
Today, our nation pauses to reflect with gratitude and honor for the sacrifice our veterans have made to defend liberty, preserve freedom and advance the common good. With untold stories of heroism and dedication to duty, men and women who have served in our military have prized country more than self, knowing that freedom isn’t free.
