Congressman Christopher Shays with the women of “project from the heart." The team participated and paddled across Long Island Sound as part of “Kayak for a Cause.” The same day the Lightfoot Running Club sponsored the Ian James Eaccarino 9 mile race. The Courage to Speak Foundation encourages students, parents and communities to talk openly and honestly about the dangers of drug abuse, and promotes and encourages drug free living.
Congressman Christopher Shays was joined by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) in reintroducing the Access to Birth Control (ABC) Act, which would make it illegal for a pharmacy to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions to women who request them.

Lee, Planned Parenthood, Sexuality Information and Education Council of the U.S., Advocates for Youth and NARAL Pro-Choice America to advocate for the REAL Act, a bill that would authorize federal funds for states to offer comprehensive and medically accurate sexual education in their schools.
   
Shays listens as Norwalk Mayor Dick Moccia discusses the benefits of the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan for Norwalk residents over age 65. With the Connecticut Department of Social Services, Shays and Moccia hosted a briefing on the benefit at the Norwalk Hospital on April 10.

Shays addresses small business owners at the forum he hosted on government contracting for small and disadvantaged businesses. The event was held at Fairfield University Friday, April 28.

Shays joins Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-IL) for the introduction of the Child Nutrition Promotion and School Lunch Act Press Conference, which updates school nutrition standards for foods sold at school outside of the cafeteria. July 19th, Shays was honored with a Congressional Steward of Endangered Species Award for his support of the Endangered Species Act. “Congressman Shays has been a stalwart leader in protecting endangered wildlife in the United States and internationally,” said Susan Holmes, senior legislative representative at Earthjustice. “We are grateful to him for upholding strong protections for endangered species and the special places they call home.”
