Announce Veterans’ Funding On The Way To Connecticut
Washington, D.C. – The State of Connecticut
Department of Veterans Affairs will receive a $2.99 million
check from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the
Connecticut Veterans’ Home at Rocky Hill, U.S. Reps.
Christopher Shays, Nancy Johnson and Rob Simmons announced
today. The funding will support a repair to the facility's
water system.
“The men and women who have served our country deserve
a comfortable residence,” Shays said. “This funding
will help improve the facility for the veterans living at
Rocky Hill and I was pleased to support this funding.”
“This is a big win for Connecticut’s veterans
and for the Veterans’ Home in Rocky Hill,” Johnson
said. “Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices
in defense of our freedom, and I will continue fighting to
see that they get the benefits they deserve.”
“This is great news for our veterans,” Simmons
said. “In 1864, the state of Connecticut established
the Rocky Hill Veterans’ Home for wounded and homeless
Union soldiers. At the time, it represented one of the nation’s
earliest commitments to our veterans. Almost 150 years later,
we are once again showing our commitment to providing the
best care possible for Connecticut’s veterans.”
The $2.99 million grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans
Affairs will cover 65 percent of the anticipated cost of the
project.
