Shays Comment on Broadwater Study

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Save the Sound and the Connecticut Fund for the Environment released their report on alternatives to Broadwater. Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT), who opposes placing a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility in Long Island Sound, released the following statement on the study:

“Today’s report underscores our feeling that the proposed Broadwater facility would cost more, in terms of environmental impact, than it would benefit our local energy needs,” Shays said. “While I support the use of liquefied natural gas as a viable means to increase our energy supply, I believe we need to make sure placement of LNG facilities is safe for people and the surrounding environment.”

The report can be found at www.cfenv.org/STS/broadwater/news/alternatives-analysis.pdf.
