Shays Calls on DoJ to Investigate Perjury Claims Against Roger Clemens

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Christopher Shays (CT-4), a senior member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today joined Chairman Henry Waxman and Ranking Member Tom Davis in calling on the Department of Justice (DoJ) to investigate whether Roger Clemens committed perjury and made knowingly false statements during the Committee's investigation of the use of steroids and performance-enhancing drugs in professional baseball.

“Given that the depositions and testimony of Andy Pettitte and Brian McNamee to the Committee directly contradicts the testimony of Mr. Clemens, it seems to me the Justice Department should investigate the questions these contradictions raise,” stated Shays.

Copies of Shays’ letter and the Waxman-Davis letter are attached.
