Will Host Forums to Address Mortgage Crisis
Bridgeport, CT. – Congressman Christopher Shays (CT-4)
will host forums in Stamford and Bridgeport this Saturday
to discuss the sub-prime mortgage crisis in Connecticut. Federal
and State agencies will address the problem and provide information
on possible solutions and ways to avoid foreclosures. Non-profit
housing agencies throughout the Fourth Congressional District
will provide information on services to assist homeowners.
The Stamford forum will be Co-Hosted by Stamford Mayor Dan
Malloy and the Bridgeport forum will be Co-Hosted by Bridgeport
Mayor Bill Finch.
“Given the challenges in the sub-prime mortgage market,
it’s important homeowners have as much information as
possible to prevent foreclosures,” said Shays. “These
forums will help residents of the Fourth District learn more
about steps they can take to avoid this growing problem.”
“There are 20,000 homeowners in Connecticut who will
face a reset of their mortgage interest rates in 2008,”
said Mayor Malloy. “It is to the mutual benefit of these
homeowners, their communities and their lenders to facilitate
a way for homeowners to remain in their homes while working
out a means for homeowners to afford to make their mortgage
payments. Foreclosure is costly to lenders and homeowners,
and it is disruptive to neighborhoods and the local real estate
market. This is a problem that cannot be ignored.”
“I am deeply concerned by the effects that the subprime
crises may have on our City, stated Mayor Finch. “I
encourage homeowners who anticipate a problem making their
mortgage payments to seek help immediately. Attending informational
forums such as these can be a crucial step in finding out
what sources of help are available.”
