Shays Receives a Perfect Score from American Association of University Women for His Work in the First Session of the 110th Congress

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Christopher Shays (CT-4) received a perfect score of 100 percent on the American Association of University Women on their 2007 Congressional Scorecard, which was released recently.

"On behalf of the more than 100,000 bipartisan members of the American Association of University Women, I want to thank Congressman Shays for his 100 percent rating in our Congressional Voting Record for the first session of the 110th Congress," said Lisa Maatz, AAUW's Director of Public Policy and Government Relations. "We appreciate his support for AAUW’s priority issues, including his efforts to improve women's economic security through positive votes on pay equity legislation and increasing the minimum wage, as well as his longtime leadership of efforts to strengthen hate crimes laws and his opposition to weakening family planning programs."

“I am grateful for this recognition and for the work of the AAUW,” stated Shays. “The AAUW has battled for decades to promote equity and education for all women and their advocacy on important priorities such as education, economic security, and civil rights has had a profound impact on the issues this Congress has debated.”

AAUW’s congressional voting record informs AAUW members of positions taken by their senators and representatives on the Association’s federal legislative priorities.

The specific legislation included in this voting record for the First Session of the 110th Congress was selected on the basis of AAUW’s public policy priorities and principles as adopted by AAUW convention delegates in 2007.

This voting record provides information about how senators and representatives voted on AAUW’s issues including education, economic security, and civil rights.
