SNYDER ANNOUNCES FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARATION FOR WHITE COUNTY WASHINGTON, D.C. - United States Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has amended President Bush's original federal disaster declaration of January 24 to include White county. With the designation, White County is eligible for 75 percent reimbursement from FEMA for cleanup costs resulting from the damage caused by severe storms and flooding from December 15, 2001 through December 19, 2001.
"This is the fourth time in my five years in Congress that White County has been
declared a federal disaster area," Congressman Vic Snyder said. "These federal dollars
should help with the recovery effort. Hopefully, this will be the last time for many
years to come that White County will incur the wrath of weather."
The President's disaster declaration for Arkansas now includes the following counties:
Ashley, Clay, Cleburne, Columbia, Craighead, Crittenden, Franklin, Greene, Independence,
Jackson, Lincoln, Little River, Logan, Monroe, Poinsett, Prairie, Scott, Stone, White and
Woodruff.
In January, the Arkansas congressional delegation sent a letter to the President asking
that he approve the request made by Governor Mike Huckabee to make federal aid available through
FEMA to the counties affected by the storms and flooding.
