SNYDER ANNOUNCES HOUSE PASSAGE OF FUNDING FOR STATE TRANSPORTATION
PROJECTS
WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Representative Vic Snyder announced
today that the House passed the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy
for Users (TEA-LU), which includes funding for transportation projects
in Arkansas. TEA-LU authorizes $284 billion over six years for federal
highways, public transit, and road safety projects. The bill would
provide the following funding toward several projects in Arkansas.
- $10 million - Rail Grade Separations
- $3.7 million - Highway 67, Kiehl and Vandenberg. Rehabilitation & widening
seven miles of Highway 67 from four to six lanes from Kiehl Ave. to Vandenberg
Blvd.
- $1.6 million - Junction Bridge, Little Rock. Rehabilitation & conversion
from rail to pedestrian.
- $1.5 million - Highway 65 improvements. Improvements to Hwy
65 in Van Buren Co., including the construction of passing lanes and bridge, intersection, and
other roadway improvements.
- $1.5 million - Interstates 30/440/530 Interchange. Interchange
improvements in Little Rock.
- $1 million - Maumelle Interchange. Interchange for third
entrance into Maumelle from I-40.
- $500,000 - Conway Western Loop. Engineering, rights-of-way,
relocations, & planning & design.
- $200,000 - Take it to the Edge River Trail. Construction
of an 11 mile pedestrian and bicycle trail extending from the Clinton
Presidential Library in east Little Rock along the Arkansas River
to Pinnacle Mountain State Park at the far western end of the city
limits. Portions of this project are designated as a Millennium Trail.
"These funds are necessary for the implementation of safety
upgrades and improvements to the Arkansas interstate routes and rail
grades,” Congressman Vic Snyder said.
Legislation containing these Arkansas projects will next be considered
by the US Senate.
