SNYDER ANNOUNCES PASSAGE OF BILLS HONORING CRAFT, ARNOLD

WASHINGTON, D.C. - United States Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced today the House passage of H.R. 4486, the Clarence B. Craft Post Office Building Designation Act and H.R. 4028, the Richard S. Arnold U.S. Courthouse Designation Act. Rep. John Boozman (AR-03) sponsored these bills and was joined in his support by the rest of Arkansas's Congressional delegation.

H.R. 4486 would name the post office building located at 1590 East Joyce Boulevard in Fayetteville, AR after WWII veteran Clarence Craft. Craft received the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military honor, for staging a one-man attack on the Japanese at Hen Hill during World War II. Craft died earlier this year.

Congressman Snyder spoke on the floor of the House today in support of the bill honoring Craft (H.R. 4486): "Time goes by and we lose more of our WWII and Korean veterans, but we must remember the history. We must remember the stories like Mr. Craft's and the history and sacrifice that his service represents. The naming of this facility will perpetuate his memory and the memory of the sacrifice of all our veterans."

Congressman Snyder also made the following remarks regarding H.R. 4028, which he helped draft, naming the federal courthouse after Judge Arnold: "The Arkansas delegation is united in its support for this measure, but his colleagues on the federal bench are also united in their respect for his accomplishment and for him as a person."

H.R. 4028 would name the federal courthouse located at 600 West Capitol Avenue in Little Rock, AR after Judge Richard Arnold. President Carter appointed Arnold to the federal bench 1978. Arnold served as Chief Judge of the Eighth Circuit from 1992 to 1998.

The legislation now goes to the Senate for approval.
