SNYDER ANNOUNCES CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION WINNERS, HONORABLE MENTIONS LITTLE ROCK-United States Representative Vic
Snyder (AR-02) announced the winner of the Congressional Art Competition
for the 2nd District of Arkansas at a UALR reception last night.
Senior Sarah Cobb of Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock was awarded
the top honor for her mixed media artwork entitled "Red and Yellow, Black
and White." Honorable mentions went to Junior Megan Lambe of St. Joseph
High School in Conway for her pastel artwork entitled "Cubist Saxophone"
and to Senior Allison Tucker, also of Mount St. Mary, for her still fluid
emulsion entitled "Fruit Bowl."
"All of the 57 participants are to be commended for their great talent
and dedication to their craft," Congressman Snyder said. "I'm always
amazed at the high quality of work created by these high school students."
Sally Williams (Arkansas Arts Council), Brad Cushman, and Win Bruhl
(both from the UALR Art Department) judged the 57 entries. Students from
Bryant, Benton, Mt. St. Mary's, Pulaski Academy, Central, Bald Knob,
Arkansas Baptist, St. Joseph, Guy Perkins, and North Pulaski participated
in this year's competition.
Cobb received two free airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to attend
a Washington D.C. reception on June 25th. Cobb's artwork will be displayed
in the U.S. Capitol Complex from June 2002 to May 2003. All of the entries
in the 2nd District competition will be displayed in UALR's Gallery 3 until
Friday, June 7th.
