SNYDER ANNOUNCES CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION WINNERS, HONORABLE MENTIONS

LITTLE ROCK-United States Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for the 2nd District of Arkansas at a UALR reception last night.

Senior Sarah Cobb of Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock was awarded the top honor for her mixed media artwork entitled "Red and Yellow, Black and White." Honorable mentions went to Junior Megan Lambe of St. Joseph High School in Conway for her pastel artwork entitled "Cubist Saxophone" and to Senior Allison Tucker, also of Mount St. Mary, for her still fluid emulsion entitled "Fruit Bowl."

"All of the 57 participants are to be commended for their great talent and dedication to their craft," Congressman Snyder said. "I'm always amazed at the high quality of work created by these high school students."

Sally Williams (Arkansas Arts Council), Brad Cushman, and Win Bruhl (both from the UALR Art Department) judged the 57 entries. Students from Bryant, Benton, Mt. St. Mary's, Pulaski Academy, Central, Bald Knob, Arkansas Baptist, St. Joseph, Guy Perkins, and North Pulaski participated in this year's competition.

Cobb received two free airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to attend a Washington D.C. reception on June 25th. Cobb's artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Complex from June 2002 to May 2003. All of the entries in the 2nd District competition will be displayed in UALR's Gallery 3 until Friday, June 7th.
