Snyder-Wilson Letter Questions Policy Change
Letter Expresses Concern about New Restrictions on Army Women; Sent to Members of House Armed Services Committee

Washington, DC – Representatives Vic Snyder (D-Arkansas) and Heather Wilson (R-New Mexico) today sent a letter to members of the House Armed Services Committee expressing concerns about changes to the U.S. Armed Forces women-in-combat policy included in the Defense Authorization Bill under consideration in the Committee.

Congressman Snyder is Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Personnel in the House Armed Services Committee and a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Congresswoman Wilson is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and the only woman veteran serving in Congress, and chairs the Subcommittee on Technical and Tactical Intelligence in the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Text of letter to HASC attached below:

Dear Committee Members:

We want to share with you our serious concerns regarding the amendment that was recently passed by the House Armed Services Committee Subcommittee on Military Personnel that would prohibit the assignment of female members of the Army to Forward Support Companies.

Attached is a letter from Major General Kathryn Frost, U.S. Army, retired on this issue. We believe that her remarks capture the profound impact this amendment will have on women in the Army.

We believe that General Frost’s statement speaks for itself. “This is a bad amendment for women who serve in our Army, for their male counterparts and for the readiness of the force.”

Sincerely,

VIC SNYDER
Member of Congress
HEATHER WILSON
Member of Congress
