Congressman Snyder Announces House
Passage of Funding For UALR Hydrogen Storage Project Washington, D.C. - Late yesterday evening the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act for FY06, which includes $400,000 for a hydrogen storage project at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The program funds research and development of hydrogen production, storage, and delivery technologies. The long-term goal of the program is to develop hydrogen technology that will allow the U.S. to move forward in achieving a cleaner, more secure energy. This research funding will help UALR will play a role in reaching that goal. “UALR is increasingly becoming known for its aptitude for research and progressive ventures,” said Congressman Vic Snyder. “I am pleased to announce the funding of this very promising hydrogen storage project.” A group of nanotechnology researchers from UALR, along with the National Center for Toxicological Research, a NASA scientist, and researchers in Romania have been working together over the last three years and recently made a breakthrough in nanostructure production. The group’s work makes it possible to commercialize nanotechnology, previously impossible due to the complexities of price, uniformity, and purity. The group has a number of patents pending for its work, and this funding will enable UALR to expand its research in exploring hydrogen-related applications. -30- |
