LRAFB, Camp Robinson Projects Pass U.S. House

Washington, D.C. - United States Representative Vic Snyder announced today that late yesterday evening the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 (H.R.1815), which includes funding and language benefiting projects at the Little Rock Air Force Base and Camp Robinson.

Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville:

  • $6.4 million for an Airman Dining Facility

  • $ 2.5 million for an alternate taxiway at the All American Drop Zone assault strip

  • Language allowing the Air Force to sell a railroad easement to Jacksonville for $54,000. This would deed a portion of rail line from the U.S. Gov’t. to the city of Jacksonville and be used for its future rail transportation needs and expansion.

Camp Robinson in North Little Rock:

  • Language allowing the Nat’l Guard to exchange land on which to build an aviation support facility. The land exchange with a private contractor will facilitate the construction of an important aviation support facility that has already been federally funded. The exchange, roughly 300 acres for 300 acres, is essentially of equal value but allows the construction of the aviation support facility without the risk of encroachment by residential areas that would restrict flight operations out of Camp Robinson.

“The federal government continues to invest in our state’s military facilities, which is great news,” said Congressman Vic Snyder. “I look forward to the eventual construction of these worthwhile projects for Camp Robinson and the Little Rock Air Force Base. The process now continues by going to the U.S. Senate for approval.”

Congressman Vic Snyder, a former Marine and Vietnam Veteran, serves on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. He is the ranking member of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel.
