Congressional Delegation Announces $279,360 in Grants for Rural Fire Protection

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Members of the Arkansas Congressional delegation today announced $279,360 in grants for seven rural fire departments in Arkansas.

The grants were announced jointly by U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Vic Snyder, John Boozman, and Mike Ross.

The grants are administered by the Federal Emergency Management Administration and U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the "Assistance to Firefighters Program."

This program provides support to fire departments by providing the tools and resources necessary to ensure both the safety of department personnel and the general public. Grant funds are used to enhance firefighting operations, develop firefighter health and safety programs, acquire new equipment and vehicles, enhance EMS programs, and conduct fire prevention and safety programs.

Grants were awarded to the following Arkansas fire departments in the following amounts:

  • Casa Volunteer Fire Dept. (Casa) – $21,358 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Williams Junction Volunteer Fire Department (Perryville) – $10,044 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • East Cypress Fire Dept. (Vilonia) – $85,815 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Hartford Fire Dept. (Hartford) – $42,174 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Clear Creek Fire Dept. (Wilmar) – $101,485 for a firefighting vehicle

  • Grayson Fire Association (Booneville) – $11,160 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Gillham Volunteer Fire Dept. (Gillham) – $7,324 for emergency medical services
