SNYDER ANNOUNCES FUNDS FOR FOURCHE CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT LITTLE ROCK - Congressman Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced
today that the United States Environmental Protection Agency has awarded
$264,693 to the Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Commission for restoring
the Fourche Creek Watershed in Central Arkansas.
The funds will be used to implement Audubon Arkansas's Fourche Creek
Restoration and Education Project, which includes reducing nonpoint pollutants,
constructing sediment catchments, restoring stream banks, reforesting barren
land, and educating the public.
"Restoring the Fourche Creek Watershed will provide financial benefits to
Central Arkansas and additional recreational opportunities for all Arkansans,"
Congressman Snyder said.
The Fourche Creek Watershed spans 108,000 acres, of which an estimated 6,000
are within Little Rock's city limits. One of the largest urban wetlands in
the country, Fourche Creek Bottoms drains eastern Saline and western Pulaski
counties including the entire city of Little Rock.
