Congressional Delegation Announces Nearly $139,000 in Grants for Rural Fire Protection

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Members of the Arkansas Congressional delegation today announced $138,750 in grants for eight rural fire departments in Arkansas.

The grants were announced jointly by U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Vic Snyder, Mike Ross and Marion Berry. The grants are administered by the Federal Emergency Management Administration and U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the "Assistance to Firefighters Program."

This program provides support to fire departments by providing the tools and resources necessary to ensure both the safety of department personnel and the general public. Grant funds are used to enhance firefighting operations, develop firefighter health and safety programs, acquire new equipment and vehicles, enhance EMS programs, and conduct fire prevention and safety programs. Grants were awarded to the following Arkansas fire departments in the following amounts:

  • Warm Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. (Warm Springs) - $19,104 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Dardanelle Rural Fire Dept. (Dardanelle) - $32,319 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Bee Branch Volunteer Fire Dept. (Bee Branch) - $20,250 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Manning Rural Fire Dept. (Sparkman) - $37,170 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Junction City Volunteer Fire Dept. (Junction City) - $15,633 for fire operations and firefighter safety

  • Mars Hill Fire Dept. (Stamps) - $14,094 for fire operations and firefighter safety
