SNYDER APPLAUDS PASSAGE OF AMENDMENTS EASING CUBA TRADE, TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C.-United States Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced today that the House passed amendments to the Treasury and Postal Appropriations bill (H.R. 5120) that would ease restrictions on travel and trade with Cuba.

The House approved amendments offered by Representatives Jeff Flake (AZ-01) and Jerry Moran (KS-01) that would eliminate restrictions on American tourists traveling to Cuba, lift the cap on how much money Cuban-Americans can remit to their families in Cuba, and remove hurdles to the sale of food and medicine to Cuba.

"I am pleased with the House's approval of these common sense measures to reduce the amount of U.S. dollars spent on denying Americans the freedom to travel to Cuba or to sell their food and medicine to the Cuban people," Congressman Snyder said. "It just does not make sense to keep throwing money at a failed U.S. policy."

The appropriations bill now goes to the Senate for approval. The President has threatened to veto the final bill if it includes these provisions.

Congressman Snyder is a member of the bipartisan Cuba Working Group, which meets regularly to review the effectiveness of current U.S. policy towards Cuba and to advocate for changes in U.S. policy through the legislative process.
