SNYDER ANNOUNCES HOUSE PASSAGE OF FUNDING FOR PROJECTS IN CONWAY, BRYANT, FAULKNER COUNTY WASHINGTON, D.C. - United States Representative Vic
Snyder (AR-02) announced today that the House passed the Department of Veterans Affairs
and Housing and Urban Development and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act for FY
2004 or VA-HUD, which provides $126.9 billion in appropriations for FY04, including
funding for veterans and housing projects in Arkansas's Second District.
While the funding must still go through a House-Senate Conference Committee before final approval, H.R. 2861 would fund projects important to Arkansas including:
Downtown Conway has suffered from three major fires in the last three years. These fires have collectively damaged the downtown area. The City of Conway, and the Conway Downtown Partnership have completed a master plan of redevelopment for approximately 30 blocks of Conway, Arkansas's central business district and adjacent neighborhoods. The funds would be used to implement Phase I of the project, which focuses on the redefinition of the public way along Front Street, providing connectivity between Hendrix College and the central business district.
$75,000 to Bryant Youth Assn. for land acquisition & construction of Boys & Girls Club.
A group of residents recently organized the Bryant Youth Association, Inc. with the mission of organizing a Boys & Girls Club. The purpose of the Club will be to develop education, sports, anti-drug, teamwork, handicraft and similar programs that would enhance family, school, and civic responsibilities. This grant will go to advance the construction and equipment of the facility.
$200,000 for Wastewater Infrastructure for Lake Conway.
The Faulkner County Public Utilities Board will utilize these funds to build a new sewer system as part of a centralized sewer sanitation system for the 1,500 families around Lake Conway. The new system will help to alleviate problems with leaking septic tanks that are common throughout the area. The new system is called a Septic Tank Effluent Pump system, or STEP. The Board has previously received a $2.1 million federal grant administered by the Arkansas Department of Economic Development.
"The construction and renovation of our public areas and facilities are important to the continued growth of central Arkansas," said Congressman Vic Snyder. "I am pleased to announce the House passage of funding for these projects. "
