Arkansas Congressional Delegation Announces $1 Million in Affordable Housing Grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, along with U.S. Reps. Marion Berry, Mike Ross, Vic Snyder, and John Boozman announced Friday that 11 rural fire departments in Arkansas have been awarded $376,037 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

This program provides support to fire departments by providing the tools and resources necessary to ensure both the safety of department personnel and the general public. Grant funds are used to enhance firefighting operations, develop firefighter health and safety programs, acquire new equipment and vehicles, enhance EMS programs, and conduct fire prevention and safety programs.

The following departments have been awarded grants for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety:

  • Tri-Community Fire Department (Austin) - $25,740
  • Caraway Volunteer Fire Department - $44,304
  • Caldwell Fire Department - $36,432
  • Jacksonport Volunteer Fire Department - $7,920
  • Vilonia Fire & Rescue - $38,867
  • Moreland Fire Department (Russellville) - $23,599
  • Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department (Oden) - $45,000
  • "Y" Community Fire Department (Rison) - $28,125
  • Boles Volunteer Fire Department - $43,587
  • Trinity Volunteer Fire Department (Texarkana) - $34,961

In addition, the St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $47,502 for a Firefighting Vehicle.

These awards are part of the 11th round of grant announcements. To date, over 2600 fire departments have received almost $170 million to support their role as first responders in the neighborhoods and communities they serve as firefighters.
