SNYDER ANNOUNCES HOUSE PASSAGE OF FUNDING FOR STATE TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - United States Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced today that the House passed the FY2004 Transportation Appropriations bill yesterday evening, which includes funding for transportation projects in Arkansas.

The bill would fund several projects important to Arkansas including:

  • $1 million for Interstate 430/630 interchange modifications. The proposed project would provide congestion relief for Interstates 430 and 630, two major interstate routes in the central Arkansas region.
  • $3.75 million for statewide buses and bus facilities.
  • $600,000 for the Rock Island Parkway Project, an effort to acquire and preserve an abandoned railroad right-of-way corridor parallel to I-30 between Saline and Pulaski Counties.

"These funds are much-needed for the implementation of safety upgrades to the Central Arkansas Interstate routes and to expand statewide bus services," Congressman Vic Snyder said. "The Rock Island Parkway Project is also a very important effort by Saline County to preserve for future use the corridor formerly used by the Rock Island Railroad."

The legislation containing these Arkansas projects will next be sent to the US Senate.
