SNYDER ANNOUNCES FUNDS FOR SPRINGHILL FIRE DEPARTMENT WASHINGTON, D.C. - United States Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02)
announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States
Fire Administration (USFA) has awarded $53,580 to the Springhill Volunteer Fire Department
under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The funds will be used for fire operations and firefighter safety.
"Our firefighters put their lives at risk everyday to keep us out of harm's way,"
Congressman Snyder said. "It is important that they have the resources necessary to
keep our families safe. I'm pleased to see Springhill Volunteer Fire Department receive
this much-needed assistance."
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as an opportunity for the
United States Congress to work with FEMA to enhance basic fire service delivery across
the United States. Over 5,000 departments will receive over $360 million to support
fire protection, EMS delivery, vehicle purchase, and prevention programs in 2002.
More than 19,000 fire departments applied for grant awards this year. The request
of the Springhill Volunteer Fire Department has been through a national peer review
process involving over 300 fire service leaders.
