PROTECT YOUR CHILD'S PRIVACY FROM MILITARY RECRUITERS
Unbeknownst to most parents and students, a provision of the No Child Left Behind law provides military recruiters with access to high school students’ names, addresses, and phone numbers. In fact, high schools are required to turn this information over to military recruiters upon request UNLESS the student or parent has formally informed school officials that they do not want their information shared.
Students and parents can protect their privacy by sending the school an annual opt out notice that prohibits the school from providing the student’s records to military recruiters.
To help parents and students, I have developed an opt out notice which can be sent to your school’s principal to prohibit the school from sharing the student’s records with military recruiters. Please click here to access this form.
